In the cold up to 'La Fontanelle' on 1182 meter

Day 86 Th/Do: Marols -》Jouanzecq 23 km
-》1182 -》923 m (cold 5 ºC )

After Marols a dog is running to us and barks dangerous, but returns home when I keep him on distance with my walking sticks. Moments later, he repeats this ritual and then let us move on. We are climbing now on small paths to the highest point before 'Le Puy en Velay' : 'La Fontanelle' at 1182 meters.
When we walk down again its 5 degrees Celsius with a cold wind. Later we hear that snow may even fall again tomorrow. We descend and climb up to the top with a church in Montarcher. Where we enjoy the beautiful view over the valley and the mountains far away. It makes you again silent. Impressive!
Then we walk down where the trail splits into the longer GR route and the shorter pilgrim route to ' Le Puy en Velay’. We choose the shorter route via 'Jouanzecq' and tomorrow 'Le Cros'. It is surprising how high and far Montarcher is already again, where we had the wide view over the valley.
On this route I trust, but have also the benefit of the reservations that Franz has already made. So far, there is always also place for me. I am grateful to Franz.
On the end of this day it still far and we push on. All the climbing and descending steals our energy and time. If the legs and stomach are protesting, we eat baguette and cheese on a tree trunk. And then we continue.

In de kou naar 'La Fontanelle' op 1182 meter
Na Marols komt een hond nog dreigend blaffend op ons af stormen, maar keert huiswaarts als ik hem met mijn stokken op afstand hou. Even later herhaalt hij dit ritueel en laat ons daarna met rust.
Het is nu klimmen over kleine paadjes naar het hoogste punt voor 'Le Puy en Velay' : 'La Fontanelle' op 1182 meter.
Als wij daar afdalen is het 5 graden en de wind ijskoud. Later horen wij dat er zelfs sneeuw kan gaan vallen morgen.
We dalen en klimmen weer naar de op een top gelegen kerk in Montarcher. Daar genieten wij van het prachtig uitzicht over de vallei en bergen in de verte. Daar word je weer even stil van. Indrukwekkend !
Dan weer omlaag waar de wandelroute zich splitst in de langere GR route en de kortere Pelgrims route naar 'Le Puy en Velay'. Wij kiezen de kortere richting via 'Jouanzecq' en 'Le Cros' morgen. Verrassend hoe hoog en ver Montarcher dan alweer ligt, waar wij eerder het dal inkeken.
Op deze route vaar ik mee op de reserveringen die Franz al gemaakt heeft. Tot nu toe is er ook altijd plek voor mij. Daar ben ik Franz dankbaar voor.
Even flink doorstappen nu. Dat klimmen en dalen kost veel tijd. Als de benen en maag protesteren, even wat stokbrood en kaas op een boomstam. En dan weer verder.
