A new King and Sleeping in Larochemillay

Day 63 Tu/Di: Athez -》Larochemillay 34

Walking through the higher part of the Morvan.
The next 14 km are more difficult as I thought, along the edges of the Mont Beuvray. I get tired walking long this day and with more weight with my extra food burden. Sometimes resting on a stone. Well, who wants to eat, must also carry it :)
It is still a beautiful area, only it's a wet day and the hills are hidden in the clouds. I have the rain poncho sometimes completely covering me, and then back over my head on my backpack, when it is slightly drier. I see this time more the wet Morvan. But there is much more beautiful to see for later.
If I'm almost there, I see to my horror that my final destination Larochemillay is located on a high hill. So in confidence I climb step by step while I'm still not sure if I can sleep there. And its starts raining again, but I know that I cannot walk any further. So I am fantasizing how to set up my tent and keep my backpack dry. But my effort is rewarded. Above I find the Gite and someone who is at work in front of the building and calls the owner for me. Much better as phoning myself with my limited French. Soon, the caretaker, opens the door, and turns the heating on. Lovely feeling this is after such a long day. With my last cup-a-soup from Tongeren Belgium, some French bread and cheese I feel fine. I miss only a glass of wine :)
In the guest book, I read that Carla from NL, who I met at Reims, was here two days ago. That is how you can meet again on paper.
The last 3 days there was every day a pilgrim here, I read. But now I am alone. Still nice to read this.
I find notes of another Dutchman Dirk, who stayed also with Ingeborg in Etourvy. He walks the other way around, back to home, we did not meet, and yet I'm learning a little bit about him via his written words.
He writes about a poem on a monument along the route, which touches me:
"Dans la silence et la solitude, en entend plus que l'essentiel.
So I feel it also: In the silence and the solitude, you get connected to the core/essence, learning more about myself. Who I am and who / what God wants me to be. A search that is important for me.
That is like we all go as pilgrims through this life. But not everybody needs to walk so far for this :)
But it feels good to think about who you are, not distracted by the noise of the everyday life still.
Tomorrow, I will leave the Morvan for the last few walking days to Taizé.
News I do not follow on my journey. But I realize today that we got a new king in the Low Countries (The Netherlands). I wish Willem-Alexander and his family a lot of good.
I have a TV in this Gite and can follow the Dutch news on the French news. And I check the weather forecast, and see a lot of rain. Better to have rain here on asphalt roads with a bit of mud, then on the slippery loam paths near Reims. So I see it again from the bright side :)

De hogere Morvan 2 -》 slapen in Larochemillay

De volgende 14 km zijn nog pittiger dan ik dacht, langs de randen van de Mont Beuvray en vallen mij zwaar, nu met ook mijn etenslast. Maar af en toe uitrusten op een steen. Tsja wie wil eten moet ook willen sjouwen. :)
Blijft prachtig, alleen is het een natte dag en liggen de heuvels in de wolken. Poncho wisselend steeds helemaal aan en dan weer naar achteren slaan als het iets droger is. Ik krijg meer de natte Morvan te zien. Maar er is hier nog veel meer moois te zien voor later.
Als ik er bijna ben zie ik tot mijn schrik dat mijn eindbestemming Larochemillay, hoog op een heuvel ligt. Dus nog even in vertrouwen stapje voor stapje omhoog, terwijl ik nog steeds niet zeker weet of ik daar ergens boven kan slapen. Het regent maar ik weet dat ik niet verder moet gaan, dus fantaseer al hoe mijn tentje op te zetten en mijn rugzak droog te houden. Maar die inspanning wordt beloond. Boven vind ik de Gite en wil iemand die daar aan het werk is wel even bellen voor mij. Al gauw komt de beheerster, zet de verwarming aan. Heerlijk voelt dit na zo'n dag. Met mijn laatste cup-a-soup uit Tongeren BE, stokbrood en kaas voel ik mij prima. Ik mis alleen een wijntje :)
In het gastenboek zie ik dat Carla die ik eerder had ontmoet bij Reims, hier 2 dagen geleden was. Zo kom je elkaar weer tegen.
De laatste 3 dagen iedere dag een pelgrim hier lees ik en toch allemaal alleen onderweg. Leuk om te lezen.
Een andere Brabander Dirk, die ook bij Ingeborg in Etourvy was, kom ik ook steeds tegen op papier. Hij loopt andersom naar huis, wij hebben elkaar niet ontmoet en toch leer ik hem zo een beetje kennen.
Hij schrijft over een spreuk op een monument langs de route, wat mij raakt :
'Dans la silence et la solitude, en entend plus que l'essentiel'.
Zo voel ik het: In de stilte en het alleen zijn, doordringen tot de kern, mijzelf leren kennen. Wie ik ben en wie / wat God in mij wil zijn. Een zoektocht die voor mij belangrijk is.
Zo gaan wij allemaal als pelgrims door dit leven. Wees gerust daar hoef je niet allemaal zo'n eind voor op pad te gaan :)
Maar wel goed om eens stil te staan wie je bent,, niet afgeleid door de ruis van het dagelijks leven.
Morgen verder, dan verlaat ik de Morvan alweer en ga ik richting Taize.
Nieuws volg ik helemaal niet meer tijdens mijn tocht. Maar ik besef mij vandaag wel nog net dat de lage landen nu weer een koning heeft. Wens Willem-Alexander en zijn gezin veel goeds toe.
Beelden ervan halen ook het Franse nieuws wat ik hier even kan kijken, om vooral de weersverwachting te checken. Voorlopig regen. Maar beter hier op asfalt of gewone modder, dan op de gladde leemgrond voor Reims. Zo zie ik het weer van de zonnige kant :)
